  • Passers-by watched in horror as the man jumped into the water to save himself.
  • Fortunately, he managed to escape within seconds before the boat hit the target.
  • The reveler was pulled out of the water by friends who were on a separate boat

This is the horrifying moment when a reveler at sea plays dice with death, narrowly avoiding a collision with a huge cargo ship weighing 200,000 tons.

The man can be seen swimming for his life as the massive container ship sails at speed straight towards him in a fearsome fight.

With seconds left, the man managed to frantically swim far enough out of the path of the Al-Zubar ship to escape.

Onlookers said the reveler “had a death wish” as he was caught in the middle of a major shipping channel near Southampton, Hampshire today.

The incident took place shortly before 10 am in Southampton Waters when the 400-meter Al Zubara sailed from the port to Le Havre in France.

Passengers on the car ferry bound for Southampton, meanwhile, watched in horror.

The video shows the man frantically swimming away from the abandoned boat, with Al Zubara heading towards him.

Eden East, an 18-year-old student who filmed the footage, said the man was with two friends who were on a different boat and was unable to start his boat’s engine as the Maltese vessel sped towards him.

Mr East said: “We just entered and saw a huge container ship approaching us.

“We could see this boat there and I thought to myself, ‘He’s a little bold.’

He obviously didn’t foresee this.

“As soon as he saw this, you could see how he started to panic and tried to start the engine on his boat, but it would not start, so he just jumped.

“I don’t know how he did it. His boat was pulled in and thrown on the other side.

“I was very afraid for this guy, I felt bad.”

Mr East said two of the man’s friends, who can be seen fleeing in another boat, pulled him out of the water.

Mr East of East Cowes, Isle of Wight, also said the Red Funnel car ferry he traveled on had to stop and undergo a man overboard procedure.
