The first teaser trailer of Martin Scorsese’s next film is here and it’s full of familiar faces. Our first look at the Western Killers of the Flower Moon includes Scorsese leads Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, along with Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins and Jillian Dion.
Set in 1920s Oklahoma, it centers on a series of murders known as the “Reign of Terror.” It is based on a book by David Grann. Here is the full description:
In the early 20th century, oil made fortunes for the Osage nation, who overnight became one of the wealthiest people on earth. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white invaders who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as possible before resorting to murder.
Killers of the Flower Moon not only stands out for its talent and premise, but also because it represents a new strategy for Apple. The film will hit theaters in October – a limited release will begin on the 6th before hitting theaters on the 20th – and the film will stream on Apple TV Plus sometime after that (no specific date has been announced yet). Other streamers have attempted a similar rollout (notably Netflix with the premiere of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery).
The new trailer also comes as the revered Scorsese has been very candid about his career in interviews, recently telling Deadline that at the age of 80 “the whole world has opened up to me, but it’s too late.”
