Tuesday night was dreadful in every way for the Toronto Blue Jays, who were beaten by the San Diego Padres in front of their fans, and their pitching coach, Pete Walker, must have had a bad night’s sleep reflecting on his heated argument with an official.
In the second inning of a 9-1 loss, starter Alek Manoah conceded a walk to Trent Grisham after Plate umpire Malachi Moore twice warned the Jays to stop protesting his calls. The message was not heard, however, as after the free pass granted by Manoah, Walker went to the hilltop to speak to his shooter. However, he covered his mouth with his hand as he appeared on the hill.
As procedure required, Moore then walked in the direction of the Jays colors to indicate the end of the meeting. However, once he was at Instructor level, he immediately kicked him out of the game as he obviously didn’t appreciate his remarks.
“I don’t know what was said before,” Manoah told MLB.com, knowing Walker and manager John Schneider didn’t like ball calls and shots. I don’t know the past, I just don’t know. He just told me that there are judgments [de l’arbitre] which were inconvenient for us and that I shouldn’t worry about that, he would take care of the rest. Then he was kicked out.
