Prohiben en Francia manifestaciones frente al Consejo Constitucional

Wave of announcements in favor of elections in Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY, July 13 (Prensa Latina) The official conduct of the June 25 vote continues today to spark a growing outpouring of speech, all positive for the elections and the rule of law in Guatemala.

Even more so because the Special Prosecutor Against Impunity (FECI) suspended the legal personality of the Seed movement, the party that came second in the elections, and gave it 48 hours to remove it from the political race.

The Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the Development of the Country (Fundesa) has ruled on this situation and indicated that due process must be followed.

He urged all authorities not to be swayed by political pressure or any type of pressure that weakens the rule of law in this Central American country.

The National Citizens’ Movement demanded that the electoral process be respected and that the second round on August 20 be guaranteed.

He added that respect for the constitutional order must prevail in order to enforce the will of the people.

The Altiplano Farmers’ Committee called an emergency meeting in light of the current political crisis and the attack on democracy in the country.

He called the Supreme Electoral Court’s (TSE) pronouncement demagogic, “aimed at reassuring the populace while they continue to prepare for how to attack nascent national democracy.”

He noted evil intentions in the recent events and explained that the corrupt pact and criminal alliance had accommodated the situation.

Prosecutors gave the TSE 24 hours to overturn a party’s legality, with the juridicalization it seeks being clear.

Amidst this troubling panorama, former First Lady Sandra Torres of the National Hope Unity and Semilla’s presidential candidate Bernardo Arévalo have been given the green light for their respective campaigns ahead of the Aug. 20 runoff.

Torres and his group issued a statement describing the recorded events as “confusing, disturbing and damaging.”
