By the end of the game, things got out of hand and the referees didn’t hesitate to hand out generous 10-minute penalties to kick certain players out of the game.
Matthew Tkachuk, Casey Fitzgerald, Anthony Duclair, Eric Staal, Nick Cousinsand Sam Reinhart all finished the game in the Panthers locker room.
Among the hosts, Keegan Kolesar, Zach Whitecloud, Reilly Smith, Ivan Barbashev and Brett Howden also suffered the wrath of officials.
This inspired Wayne Gretzky after meeting on the set of the TNT channel.
“I can’t remember the last time so many tens were awarded by an official,” said Gretzky. It must have been during the 1976 Olympics with Nadia Comaneci!”
