“We can all do more to recognize these situations and avoid the worst” –

Several organizations are desperate to help female victims of domestic violence, even as the province has recorded a seventh murder of a woman since the beginning of the year.

“We can all do better, do more to recognize these situations and avoid the worst,” said Roxane Prénovost, spokeswoman for the group of houses for women victims of domestic violence, in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.

The Sûreté du Québec has opened an investigation into the death of a woman, which occurred in a conjugal connection Wednesday night in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac in the Laurentians.

There they discovered the lifeless body of Kamila Rodriguez Vital De Queiroz.

Some neighbors, colleagues and relatives of the deceased believed it was a family with no history. However, Ms Prénovost reminds us that warning signs and risk factors can be recognized and, if taken care of, the worst can be avoided.

“Unfortunately, when we say without history, it’s often because we didn’t look enough in the area for signs, perhaps the workers weren’t sufficiently aware, trained in screening,” she pointed out. “In most situations, there were many factors that were present.”

Ms Prénovost explains that to avoid the worst, one must watch out for red flags such as isolation, economic control, psychological and verbal abuse.

The role of relatives

Family members should step in when a situation seems out of control and have the right to turn to support resources on their side.

“As loved ones, we can really make a difference,” explains Ms. Prénovost. “If we have the slightest doubt, we can discuss it with the victim, we can support them, and the support and shelters in Quebec are also there to support loved ones and put them in a supportive attitude.”

Where can you find help?

There are several offers for people who have been victims of domestic violence, it’s just a matter of “calling for help,” the spokesman said.

‘The first contact is often by telephone, we will quickly assess the situation, we will assess whether the person is safe and depending on the situation we can call the police or the lady can make a telephone consultation or come over to Schutz’.
