The new selection also includes a file, a head that shakes horizontally and another that shakes vertically. It also includes new images showing various family models. Emojipedia also shows some familiar icons, such as those of walkers, but oriented in a different direction.

We can already imagine the phoenix, a bird known to rise from its ashes, being used in conversation.

The draft version of the phoenix emoji presented in February differs slightly from the version approved by the Unicode Consortium.

Cooks can also be happy: A second mushroom has received the green light from Unicode, the brown mushroom. Until now there was only the one with white spots and a red head, which is reminiscent of the fly agaric and is not suitable for cooking.

The list of 118 new emojis is very modest compared to the range of icons in recent years. Recent additions include the Wi-Fi icon and many small images promoting inclusivity, such as trans and non-binary pregnancies (new window).

It is unknown when these emojis will be deployed on software and devices from Microsoft, Google, Samsung and Apple, to which the consortium gives the final say for this purpose.

Emojipedia simply says that the new emojis are expected to arrive on our various digital devices over the next year, with the majority of them arriving in the first half of 2024.
