We suffer from the fear of looking bad – Le Journal de Montréal

I have been working in public space for more than twenty years.

Over time, one thing has struck me: the weight of fear on the part of many public figures when it comes to speaking out on a “controversial” issue.

This fear distorts the mind.

Example: Imagine a debate about immigration (yes, I know I talk about it a lot, but it’s the most important issue for our future as a people).

demonization

How many think we’re headed for a demographic drowning? They are very numerous. The minority formation of French-speaking Quebecers in Quebec is part of Canadian logic.

How many will say that? Very little. Because they fear being demonized by being assigned to the “extreme right” – so the fashionable accusation.

So they remain silent or even go so far as to say the opposite of what they think to avoid being spotted by potential adversaries who would pillory them.

Another example is the debate about radical trans ideology.

How many seriously believe that calling yourself “woman” when you’re a man, or “man” when you’re a woman, is enough to become one? Very little. But they know that if they say otherwise, they will be accused of transphobia. At worst, they will denounce the excesses of gender theory without ever questioning its foundations. But overall they let it go.

But I understand that fear. She is rational.

Rarely

Because the sectarian left has the power to turn those who don’t repeat the good prayers into rarities, into monsters, into radioactive figures.

She has the power to make it so all you have to do is say a name and everyone will suddenly hold their noses or grimace to show their disgust.

It takes a minimum of armor to face such waves of hatred. Not all have it.
