Glória Maria died on February 2nd in Rio de Janeiro from metastases from lung cancer in the brain. As a TV icon, the presenter and journalist left her mark in historical reports for TV Globo and was also the first black reporter on Brazilian television.

The musician Canisso, bassist of Raimundos, died on March 13th at the age of 57. He suffered a fall as a result of fainting. According to Digão, the group's leader, the cause was a severe heart attack.

MC Marcinho

MC Marcinho died of multiple organ failure in Rio de Janeiro on August 26 at the age of 45. The singer of funk hits like Glamurosa and Tudo é Festa spent around two months in the hospital with heart and kidney failure.

The actress Neusa Maria Faro died on July 7th in São Paulo at the age of 78 as a result of a thrombosis. She is known for her role as Divina in the soap opera Alma Gêmea (2005), which had the catchphrase “Osvaldo, don't talk to Mama like that!”

Brazilian singer Astrud Gilberto died of a heart attack in Philadelphia, USA, on July 5, aged 83. The bossa nova icon was married to João Gilberto between 1959 and 1964.

American singer Tina Turner died on May 24th in Küsnacht, Switzerland, at the age of 83. The cause of death was not announced, but the Queen of Rock in the USA was facing “a long illness,” according to a spokesman. She has hits like The Best and Proud Mary.

American singer Tony Bennett died on July 21 at the age of 96 in Manhattan, New York, USA. The jazz star was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2016.
