We would be closer to peace if Iran didn’t supply arms to Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed in his nightly video address that if Iran supplies Russia with arms, it must be held responsible for the war’s impact on Ukraine on an equal footing with Russia itself.

details: Zelenskyy said he spoke to Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, about the increasing pressure on the Iranian government.

Quote from Zelenskyy: “[Iran’s] Complicity in Russian terror must be punished. And we will ensure that this topic is not only taken up by our usual partners. The whole world will know that the Iranian regime is helping Russia to prolong this war, thereby increasing the global threats posed by the Russian war.

If Iran hadn’t supplied the aggressor with weapons, we would now be closer to peace. And that means we’re getting closer to solving the food crisis. Closer to solving the cost of living crisis. Closer to stabilizing the energy market. Closer to protection from Russia’s relentless nuclear blackmail.

Therefore, absolutely anyone who helps Russia prolong this war must be held responsible, along with Russia itself, for the consequences of this war.”

More details: Zelenskyy said that Russia continues to build forces and equipment that would allow it to renew its attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure, most notably on energy infrastructure.

“That’s why Russia needs Iranian missiles. We’re preparing for it,” he said.
