A New Years Day in the water

Weather cocktail expected in southern Quebec on Thursday

Quebecers should take advantage of relatively nice weather on Wednesday before a low pressure area arrives with a weather cocktail that will sweep across Quebec on Thursday.

Cloudy weather is expected in and around Montreal, but temperatures will be above the season with highs of 3°C.

Areas of central Quebec, including Estrie and Quebec, are likely to experience intermittent light snowfall.

On the other hand, the east of the province will see more clearings with an alternation of sun and clouds, although it will be colder as the mercury will drop.

From Thursday afternoon, a mix of snow and freezing rain will hit many areas of the province.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for this depression over southern Quebec from Thursday evening through Friday morning.

The ice is likely to make the road slippery which will certainly make rush hour traffic on the roads difficult on Thursday and evening as well as Friday morning.

“Surfaces such as roads, streets, sidewalks and parking lots could become icy, slippery and dangerous,” the federal agency added.
