The weather in Austria will return to very hot in the eastern half of next week.
The heat will return next week, pushing temperatures up to 37 degrees in the eastern half on Thursday. On Friday, however, a cold front will pass from the west, the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics predicted on Sunday.
Rainy Monday in the West – Dry in the East
In North Tyrol and Vorarlberg, the first rains and occasional thunderstorms are already falling on Monday morning. Further east, the day starts dry and sunny, only in the course of the afternoon the risk of showers and thunderstorms increases significantly in the mountains and hills to the east. In many places, however, it will remain dry until nightfall in the far east and southeast. The first temperatures are from eleven to 19 degrees, the maximum values are from 24 to 32 degrees, with the highest values in the far east.
Tuesday with lots of sun
On Tuesday the sun will shine in many regions, significantly more clouds and some rain showers may occur in the southeast from the beginning. During the day, some tall cumulus clouds are more likely to form in the mountains and hills in the eastern half of Austria, isolated showers or thunderstorm cells are possible again. Most of the time, however, the day ends up quite sunny and hot in the summer. Twelve to 21 degrees early in the day, 25 to 32 degrees later.
Wednesday heat and risk of thunderstorms in the west
The influence of high pressure brings sunny weather on Wednesday and in many regions the sky is even cloudless, only a few high veil clouds are passing through. Only over the mountains do cumulus clouds become more powerful during the day, the risk of thunderstorms increases slightly in the extreme west and southwest. After twelve to 19 degrees as minimums, maximum temperatures of 28 to 34 degrees are expected.
Thursday’s peak heat in the eastern half of Austria
On Thursday, warm air masses will again be directed towards Austria with a high-level current from the southwest, but a cold front will gradually spread from the west. So Thursday starts pretty sunny everywhere, even though the high veil clouds are already passing. Away from the stretches of foehn on the northern side of the Alps, rain showers and thunderstorms will occur quickly in the west and southwest, which, however, generally only spread further east in the evening and into Friday night. During the day it generally remains sunny and hot to very hot in the eastern half and often in the foehn regions as well. 14 to 21 degrees in the morning and 23 to 37 degrees west to east in the afternoon.
Friday cold front in western half of Austria
A cold front hit the western half of Austria on Friday. Here it rains continuously and sometimes heavily. Further east and southeast, the sun will initially shine longer. During the day, however, the risk of showers and thunderstorms increases significantly here before the generally persistent rain spreads from the west. In the far west, the weather is already improving again in the afternoon. A strong to strong westerly wind arises. The first temperatures range from 13 to 22 degrees, the maximum values from 21 to 25, in the far east again up to 28 degrees.
