Weather in Quebec: The heavy rains are over, but the weather remains gray on Monday

After rainfall records for the month of October were shattered over the long Thanksgiving weekend, the weather was expected to become milder but remain gray to start the week.

A total of 115 millimeters of rain fell in the Montreal region over the past three days, with a record for the month of October of 95 millimeters in 24 hours. According to Environment Canada, the last record was 81 mm on October 6, 1995.

Charlevoix, on the other hand, recorded 135mm of rainfall over the weekend, breaking its record of 85mm of rain in 24 hours set in 2012, this time with 91.9mm. At the same time, there was unfortunately significant flooding in the region, which caused serious damage.

“The event has passed, but the low pressure system that caused it will remain in place for the remainder of the week,” Environment Canada spokesman Maxime Desharnais said.

“It will be active mainly in the far west in Abitibi-Témiscamingue,” where the first snow melted this morning, he added. A cold wind from the northwest would be to blame.

In the rest of the province, the weather is expected to become milder but remain gray, the federal agency said.

“The system [responsable du mauvais temps] is a slow system but remains active. It will move into the east of the province during the week, but will not bring major rainfall,” concluded Mr. Desharnais.
