Weather Monday: The week starts with cold and snowflakes –

The week begins with cold and snowfall across much of western and central Quebec, while a new snowstorm is expected to slowly move across the eastern part of the province on Wednesday.

“Significant amounts of snow, accompanied by strong winds and blowing snow, could affect eastern Quebec on Wednesday […] This snow is caused by a low pressure system originating from the East Coast of the United States and crossing the Maritime Provinces,” Environment Canada announced on its website Monday.

Meanwhile, there should be alternating sunshine and clouds on Monday, punctuated by a 40 to 60 percent chance of snow showers in several areas to the west, including Vaudreuil, Saint-Hyacinthe, the Laurentians, Mont-Tremblant and La Vérendrye Wildlife Refuge.

Similar forecasts are expected for some regions in central and eastern Quebec, also with a chance of snow between 30 and 60%, including Capitale-Nationale, Estrie, Drummondville, La Tuque, Rimouski, Matane and Sainte-Anne-des-Monts.

On the Montreal side, the snowflakes will wait until Tuesday morning to appear, while the federal agency instead predicts clear skies with a maximum temperature of -6 ° C, accompanied by a wind chill of -5 p.m. and -12 p.m. in the afternoon.

A similar temperature is expected for Quebec City and surrounding areas, although in certain areas such as Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, the Laurentides Game Reserve and Charlevoix, the wind chill is expected to be between -20 and -26.

Northern Quebec will see light snow at times in the James Bay region, with a 40-60% chance of snow in Schefferville, Fermont and Fontanges, where the chilly wind will bring a feeling bordering on -30.
