Weather: The rain is back after a week of calm –

After a week of good weather, the rain returned this weekend with heavy showers and accumulations of rain in southern Quebec.

From Estrie to Lanaudière, 40 to 60 millimeters of rain is expected to fall by Sunday evening. A rain warning is therefore in effect for several areas.

Environment Canada says drivers should exercise caution as “heavy rainfall can cause flash flooding and water accumulation on roads.”

This weekend’s gloomy weather is due to a low pressure system formed by the convergence of a warm wind from the East Coast of the United States and a cold wind from the Great Lakes.

Montreal, Sherbrooke and Trois-Rivières will be hardest hit by this weather system. Relatively warm temperatures around 16°C are also expected on Saturday morning. However, the weather is expected to cool down overnight Saturday into Sunday.

Less heavy rainfall is forecast for the rest of the province, particularly in Quebec, where up to 15 millimeters of rain is expected.

A wind warning is in effect for the Blanc-Sablon sector in the Côte-Nord. “The wind could sweep away objects that are not attached to a surface, causing injury or damage,” said Environment Canada, which is predicting gusts of up to 90 km/h during the day Sunday.
