The final word on Wednesday’s Season 2 is that the series is threatening to leave Netflix due to issues with the Addams Family’s rights.
NetflixPerhaps this is why Netflix still hasn’t renewed Wednesday for season 2, despite its immense success. Wednesday, which debuted on Netflix in November, quickly rose to become one of the most-watched shows in the streaming platform’s history. In addition to the massive viewership that saw the series re-enter the charts as the #1 show on Netflix by the end of the year, Wednesday also garnered rave reviews from viewers and critics alike.
Given these accolades, it seems obvious that Wednesday will be renewed, and yet fans are still awaiting an official announcement. Now the rumor mill is turning with a new report suggesting the series could end up leaving Netflix. The Independent reports that the rights tangle with new owners could hypothetically result in Wednesday’s move to Prime Video for Season 2. This is because the rights to The Addams Family are owned by MGM, which merged with Amazon in 2022. It’s still so possible that Netflix could strike a deal to keep the rights to the series for the coming seasons, but the competition from the streaming wars is making things a bit uncertain in one way or another.

In any case, it’s clear that Netflix has an interest in pushing the series forward. Netflix’s Peter Friedlander, who oversees scripted series for the US and Canada, recently said he was “optimistic” about the series’ future. However, Friedlander was also a little vague about what exactly the heist was, suggesting they’re still trying to analyze the show’s success behind the scenes.
“You may know what I’m going to say — but I don’t have anything to confirm at this point,” he told Variety in December. “I’m optimistic about Wednesday. We leave it at that. Oddly enough because it feels different, but we’re only two weeks from Wednesday’s launch. So we are still really at the beginning of this cultural phenomenon. And there’s a lot to absorb and learn about.”

What will happen in Season 2?
NetflixWherever it ends up, there’s a strong possibility that season two will take place on Wednesday. Series showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar recently teased where they plan to take things in season two, including exploring her unique relationship with Enid (Emma Myers) as well as her mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones).
“We want to kind of explore and complicate all of these relationships going forward,” the duo told THR. “School was closed when they left which gave us the most opportunities for Season 2 and I think that’s something we’re looking forward to. For us, the show is also really about that female friendship, with Wednesday and Enid really taking center stage. The fact that they really connected with the audience was really satisfying.
They added, “Then the other thing that’s really interesting is also to further explore Wednesday’s mother-daughter relationship with Morticia, which now that Morticia knows about the Force has given her some sort of idea of how.” that’s how will their relationship develop?”
Wednesday will stream on Netflix.
