Happy generational dance

The first years of adolescence form the rich subject matter of the play Génération Danse, performed at the Théâtre La Licorne. American playwright Clare Barron used this pivotal time in life to write her text, a powerful and irreverent score for nine performers of all ages. The show, directed by Sophie Cadieux, follows the everyday life of a dance group hoping to win a prestigious competition. To achieve this, the team plans to present choreography inspired by Gandhi’s legacy. However, only one actor will play the lead role… which is sure to cause a stir among the others. An extremely joyful spectacle that runs until November 18th.

If you visit Place des Arts often, unless you’re particularly curious, there’s a good chance you’ll pass its small exhibition space near the Jean Duceppe Theater without stopping. These days we present a Phi Center production that highlights the work of two pioneering artists through their works. In Michel Lemieux, heavily inspired by the Icarus legend, the viewer-user takes control of technology to take a walk in a cave. And if you come at peak times and have to wait a bit to get one of the three seats, take the opportunity to admire the work of the other famous pioneer, Édouard Lock. Écho, her somewhat melancholic choreography, will be performed by Rachele Burlassi, principal dancer of the Grands Ballets Canadiens. Free admission.

The play “Agamemnon in the Ring” combines Greek tragedy and wrestling gala.

This theatrical UFO, combining writing in Alexandrines and a wrestling gala, was presented to a sold-out audience at its performance at Aux Écuries in 2022. Now the play, which deals with the history of the Trojan War like no other, is beginning a short tour. Performances are currently scheduled in six Quebec cities, including this Saturday at the Salle Albert Dumouchel in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. The piece will also visit Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Dolbeau-Mistassini, Alma, Rimouski and Repentigny. An opportunity that you should take advantage of to discover this unclassifiable and exciting spectacle.

Thirty stone blocks transformed according to the artists’ imagination. This is what the new exhibition at MUMAQ – Musée des métiers d’art du Québec offers. Under the title “La pierre et moi… 30 ans de passion” the works of art are presented by members of the organization ASPM Stone Sculptors, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. “It is both a challenge and a joy to leave our mark on this material extracted from the belly of the earth,” emphasizes Lise Deschâtelets, curator of the exhibition and member of the group, on the theme of this art form.

As Halloween approaches, Cinéma du Parc is keeping the spirits high with a screening of Evil Dead 2 – it’s not necessary to have seen the first film to fully enjoy it. As part of its “Midnight in the Park” series, the Montreal establishment will present the cult film by Sam Raimi on October 20th, 21st and 22nd. Despite the name of the event, the work, which is offered in its original version with French subtitles, will be shown on Friday and Saturday at 9:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The following week, on October 28, 28, 29 and 31, moviegoers will be offered “the version you’ve never seen” of William Friedkin’s “The Exorcist.”
