Westworld surprise cancellation of HBO produced TV series

Westworld, surprise cancellation of HBO produced TV series

western world was turned off surprise from HBO: the TV series There will be no fifth season. An unexpected move by the network, against a show that has so far been highly regarded with 54 Emmy nominations.

Also at the center of some controversy, see for example Bethesda’s lawsuit that Westworld is a shameless copy of Fallout Shelter, the series should have ended with season five exactly as its creator Jonathan Nolan expected sometime ago.

The show’s writers apparently had precise ideas about how to wrap it up and give it an ending that lives up to expectations, a finale that we can’t see at this point though, probably due to the ratings already plummeting from the third season.

HBO’s move seems strange considering that producers of this nature usually tend to end their series in some way to avoid fan irritation, finding an agreement with the writers when there are issues that make a premature one require closure.

“For the past four seasons, Lisa and Jonah have taken viewers on a crazy odyssey, raising the bar with every step,” reads an HBO statement. “We are truly grateful to them, our talented cast, producers and crew, and all of our partners at Kilter FIlms, Bad Robot, and Warner Bros. Television.”
