(Disclaimer to avoid misunderstandings: This article is not about Brazil, but about the Democratic Kingdom of Banânia RDA.)

Banânia is a divided kingdom where half the population despises the other half. One half the selfproclaimed good caste is talking about love and reconciliation at the end of 2023, but everyone knows that it is just a trick: in 2024 they will continue to hate, persecute, censor the other half, which is labeled as the good caste and beat up. bad . They continue to be treated like pathetic human beings whose only right is to remain silent.

The economic power, the judiciary and the mainstream media will make a decisive contribution to maintaining this division in Banânia society.

In 2024, the three will continue to celebrate the victory of onesided democracy, relative democracy, democracy without people, month after month perhaps in the hope that half of the kingdom's population that doesn't like them will simply disappear, in a magical passage. Then love will triumph.

Because the fact is that in Banânia the very existence of half the population became a problem for the other half. And there are several wrong ways to deal with a problem: it is possible to ignore it, suppress it, hide it or pretend that it does not exist.

But the problem is still there, stubborn, disruptive and without a solution. The good caste would love to put everyone in prison, but unfortunately that is not possible. Perhaps the way is, as in China, to set up reeducation camps for these people who insist on having a different opinion, but that will take time.

The entire society in Banânia seems to drag itself along as if trapped in quicksand

The mainstream media's efforts to draw a positive conclusion from 2023 are remarkable, but the truth is that, with the exception of a very small group of privileged people, no one in the Democratic Kingdom of Banânia is happy.

Because in Banânia no one believes in politicians anymore. Nobody believes the polls anymore. Nobody believes in official economic figures anymore. Nobody believes in justice anymore. Nobody believes in advertising campaigns anymore. Nobody believes the news anymore.

Optimism sells, but just walk the streets and see that everyone is tired and discouraged. Tired of fake good behavior, social media displays of virtue, moral relativism, the profligacy of the powerful, monocratic decisions.

Even the segment of the population that would supposedly benefit from these behaviors has already realized that the adrenaline that comes with fingerpointing doesn't solve anything. In practice, his life has not improved. Because sealing and pointing fingers can produce temporary pleasure like a drug but it doesn't improve anyone's life at all, let alone the user's.

And the bills keep coming and the prices on supermarket shelves keep rising. Unsurprisingly, experts warn that Banânia's economy will stagnate in 2024. But it's not just the economy that will stagnate: the entire society in Banânia seems to be progressing sluggishly, as if trapped in quicksand.

The evil caste is of course the one that suffers the most, but I also notice some distress among the good caste. Because time flies and, strictly speaking, little has happened in 2023. For the sake of the evil caste, we can only hope that these years pass quickly. Life has become one big wait.

This has been the case throughout 2023, and 2024 will be no different. Essentially, there will be more of the same: Banânia will continue to be sadly divided, inexorably divided, irremediably divided.

But you never know, surprises happen. In Banânia, even the past is unpredictable.
