Several thousand people gathered outside the gates of Buckingham Palace on Saturday afternoon to catch a glimpse of the newly crowned King and Queen. A snapshot reveals the impressive panorama that Charles III. and Queen Camilla spotted greeting them from the balcony.
With their crowns came King Charles III. and Queen Camilla, following their coronation at the Abbey this Saturday afternoon, onto the mythical balcony of Buckingham Palace to greet the tens of thousands of people who had gathered in the rain in Westminster to celebrate their coronation.
During this much-anticipated performance, the royal couple first took part in the traditional drive-by above the palace, surrounded by active family members, including Prince William and his wife Kate, their children, and Anne and Edward, the sovereign’s brother and sister.
Despite the rain, a compact crowd
From the balcony, the royal family greeted the crowd, which had gathered in large numbers despite the few raindrops to see the newly crowned king and queen. A photo series immortalized by a photojournalist also shows behind the scenes of this timeless moment.
One of them, captured from the balcony they were on, shows Charles III and Queen Camilla from behind, greeting a compact crowd gathered behind the palace gates and around the Victoria Memorial – “the winged victory ‘, a monument erected in honor of Queen Victoria.
