In fact, a large study published in 2023 and conducted among 44,000 Swedes reported similar cholesterol and glucose levels in the blood of participants older than 90 years.

Candidates aged 64 to 99 were followed over a period of 35 years. Of these, 2.7% lived to be 100 years old or older.

According to the data collected, 85% of centenarians are women.

The study shows that people with lower levels of glucose (sugar) and creatine (related to kidney function) are more likely to reach their 100th birthday.

The results suggest a possible link between metabolic health, diet and exceptional longevity.

The researchers also suggested that other factors such as alcohol consumption, lifestyle, diet, genetics and even luck could also influence longevity.

Centenarians have become the fastest growing population in the world. Their number has doubled roughly every ten years since the 1970s.
