For some analysts, Kiev’s strategy is to reduce protection of Russian airspace, sow panic among the population and create the illusion of shifting hostilities to the enemy’s territory.
Military expert Yuri Knutov recalled that the West gave Ukraine millions of dollars to purchase unmanned aerial vehicles, which is why he assumed that there would be more and more massive attacks of this kind.
According to the New York Times, there are several dozen small companies in Ukraine capable of developing about six types of long-range drones, some of which can fly more than a thousand kilometers.
With this possibility, the government of Vladimir Zelensky has a specific goal: to create the illusion of a shift of hostilities to Russian territory, since the failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive that began last June is obvious.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine need to organize high-profile information events that can divert local and external public opinion from their failed campaigns.
It is estimated that the regions subjected to Ukrainian drone fire were not chosen at random either. These include targets of military value. Not so long ago, the Armed Forces of Ukraine wanted to destroy targets of the Aerospace Forces or air defense systems.
For Knutov, the Ukrainian high command is considering significantly reducing the security level of Russian airspace. In addition, in the attacked regions there are targets whose destruction can cause resonance in the information sphere, as was the case with Pskov airport.
These include attacks on the capital and an attempted attack on the television tower in the city of Bryansk.
A successful closure of broadcasting on the territory of the entire region would cause panic not only in this region, but also beyond its borders.
With increasing attacks looming in the short and medium term, Russian commanders are considering building defense lines along the entire border with Ukraine.
In addition, they will also intensify operational work to identify saboteurs serving as gunners in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Western involvement in drone attacks
Aside from the effectiveness of the unmanned aerial vehicles (or naval vehicles) that the Ukrainian military industry can produce, it is known that this would be impossible without the financial and intelligence support of the United States and its allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). . ).
Russia describes these actions as terrorist and condemns them. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zajárova said Moscow understands these actions as criminal actions by the Ukrainian government, making it an instrument of confrontation with Russia.
“Therefore, these actions will be the subject of the greatest attention of Russian law enforcement authorities. Our armed forces, which carry out the very important tasks of denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine, will not leave them unanswered,” Zajárova explained.
The diplomat also emphasized that the Russian government will not ignore such crimes of the special services of Western countries, which provide the Ukrainians with information to determine the flight routes of the drones.
This is the case with the flights of two American MQ-9 Reaper drones and the Turkish TV2 Bayraktar drone, which collected intelligence on the Crimean Peninsula.
He concluded that “we see in such actions by Kiev and its NATO leaders a cowardly attempt of impotent anger to take revenge on the population and civilian institutions for the failure of the so-called ‘counteroffensive’ and the inability to turn the situation around .” Situation in their favor.” on the contact line.
Only one conclusion can be drawn from this: the West is increasingly interfering in the conflict over Ukraine. Words that are not in “direct” confrontation with Russia lose their meaning.
