With the start of the new year, many people also have errands to run, whether it's dropping off items or going to the grocery store.
Many retailers, grocery stores and pharmacies will be open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, although some will have modified hours.
This year, New Year's Eve falls on a Sunday, so some services such as banking and mail delivery are already closed.
Here you can find out what is open and closed on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
• Target will be open December 31st from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time. On New Year's Day, Target stores will open a little later at 9 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.
• Walmart will be open both days.
• JCPenney stores will open at 11 a.m. on New Year's Eve, and the retailer said to check with local store hours for closing times. On New Year's Day, stores will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time.
• Most Macy's stores are open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve and regular hours on New Year's Day.
• TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Sierra and Homesense stores are open New Year's Eve and New Year's Day from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Kohl's is open New Year's Eve from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and New Year's Day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Whole Foods will be open both days with modified hours depending on location. Kroger will be open as usual.
• Aldi closes early on New Year's Eve and is closed on New Year's Day.
• Trader Joe's closes at 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve and remains closed all day on New Year's Eve.
• Costco's New Year's Eve hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on New Year's Day.
• Wegmans closes at 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve and reopens at 6 a.m. on New Year's Day, with the exception of New York's Astor Place and Brooklyn stores, which open at 7 a.m.

• Safeway and Albertsons stores will be open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
• Jewel-Osco, ACME and Shaw's stores and pharmacies will be open with reduced hours on New Year's Eve. Shops will be open on New Year's Day, but most pharmacies will remain closed.
• Vons stores and pharmacies will be open on New Year's Eve. They will be open with modified hours on New Year's Day, but their pharmacies will remain closed.
• Tom Thumb stores and pharmacies will be open on New Year's Eve, but pharmacy hours will be reduced. Tom Thumb stores will remain open on New Year's Day and pharmacies will remain closed.
CVS said many locations will be open over the New Year's holiday, but you should check with local stores before visiting as some may have reduced hours or be closed.
Rite Aid stores will be open regular hours on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Walgreens will be open during regular business hours on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, but pharmacy hours vary by location.
The U.S. Postal Service will not deliver mail on New Year's Day.
There is no UPS pickup or delivery service on New Year's Day, but Express Critical service is available. FedEx will not offer regular pickup and delivery services on New Year's Eve, but Home Delivery, Office and Custom Critical services will remain open. FedEx is shutting down At New Year's Day, except for the Custom Critical service.

Most banks follow the Federal Reserve bank holiday, so most bank counters will be closed on New Year's Day. As always, you can use mobile banking services and ATMs.
There will be no trading on New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ on New Year's Day.
