Miguel Bosé is one of the most famous Spanish music artists. Hits like Bandit Lover, Friend, My Morena and others remain in the memory of his fans, who were surprised after their idol made an important revelation.
As part of the Cover Night Gala, a music competition directed by RTVE and developed in Spain, The artist explained that he suffers from synesthesia, a condition that has no cure and has led Bosé to adopt a different perception of life.
To explain what synesthesia consists of, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) explain that humans have five senses: touch, sight, taste, hearing, and smell.
“Most people experience their senses individually. In synesthesia, one sense can be experienced simultaneously with another.. For example, a person with synesthesia might feel like something rough brushes their hand every time they smell a flower.
Another example of synesthesia is when the subject experiences the same sense in two ways. For example, seeing letters or numbers in a specific color, such as B. the letter “A”, which is always red, no matter what color it is written. “This is the most common type of synesthesia,” notes the source consulted.
It is a rare condition and sometimes runs within the same family. In this regard, the researchers suggest that the genetic factor could be linked to its development.
Although rare, synesthesia is not dangerous and rarely causes problems for those affected. In fact, most people with synesthesia say they enjoy their special senses.
The scientific literature on synesthesia is inconclusive, and the NIH claims that scientists “do not know what happens in the brain for synesthesia to occur,” so only “some explanations have been suggested.”
For example, some of the hypotheses concern the way neurons communicate with each other, since they are the brain cells that process information from the senses.
“Some researchers believe that people with synesthesia have extra connections between neurons in some areas of the brain.. Others think that the direction in which information can flow between brain cells may differ.
A common disease among musicians?
The audience’s interest in learning more about this condition was so great that some time ago the musician Pere Pèries made a program to explain more details about this condition.
Pèries is a music composer who has combined this activity with theater and dance. Therefore, in 2021 and for the RTVE network, the artist has created a program in which he explains the sensory behavior of people with this variation from the experience with the piano. “Everything I see transmits a sound to me, and this allows me, as a composer, to play with and listen to what I see in order to later translate it into music.“, he showed.
In addition, he pointed out that the piano keyboard is black and white to the eye, but when he touches it, it changes and has a range of colors that are not visible but perceptible. Each singer lives with this condition in their own way, which allows them to take advantage of their profession and indulge in music in unconventional ways.
