Undoubtedly one of the highest levels of virtuosity that cinema has ever achieved. The odyssey of a giant gorilla who falls madly in love with an aspiring actress captures the attention of this spectacular, delicious and unforgettable film directed by Ernest B. Schoedsack and Merian C. Cooper. Time has not managed to snag a single one of its inexhaustible charms. A truly fascinating RKO classic. Do not miss.

“Sex, Lies and Videotapes”
Sex, lies and videotape. United States, 1989 (100 minutes). Directed by Steven Soderbergh. Cast: James Spader, Andie MacDowell.
For his debut in the cinema world, Steven Soderbergh has directed an unpredictable mix of Italian erotic comedy and satire in the purest Woody Allen style on a tight budget and just a month of shooting. Although the approach seems very ambitious, the result seems a bit tricky despite the many successes: a more than remarkable success at the box office and the Palme d’Or in Cannes for best film, where it also won the award for best leading actor (James Spader).

‘The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. United States, 1960 (107 minutes). Directed by Michael Curtiz. Cast: Tony Randall, Eddie Hodges, Archie Moore.
Undoubtedly the most famous and delicious version of the Mark Twain classic, filmed to celebrate his 75th birthday. Children’s adventures full of sensitivity and fun for an entertaining film starring Tony Radall with great accuracy and in which we can see actors with the charisma of Buster Keaton himself in supporting roles. Also worth noting is the excellent soundtrack.

“The Empire of the Sun”
Empire of the Sun. United States, 1987 (152 minutes). Directed by Steven Spielberg. Cast: Christian Bale, John Malkovich, Nigel Havers.
Although David Lean was initially set to direct the film adaptation of JG Ballard’s autobiographical novel, Steven Spielberg was ultimately chosen, and the story lost much of the acidity the original so valued. Nonetheless, the story of a child separated from his parents during the Japanese invasion of China during World War II represents some interesting constants in the famous director’s cinema.

“Society of Dead Poets”
Society of Dead Poets. United States, 1989 (123 minutes). Director: Peter Weir. Cast: Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke.
Although the story is quite boring – a new teacher with extraordinary teaching methods – it doesn’t lose any of its charm due to the neoclassical flair that Peter Weir (The Truman Show) gave the story. Add to that the great work of Robin Williams, who gave life to the respected teacher. A few doses of drama are still present, but the result is more than interesting.

‘Burn After Reading’
Burn after reading. United States, 2008 (91 minutes). Directors: Joel and Ethan Coen. Cast: Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, George Clooney.
Two ruthless gym workers, a police officer, an alcoholic ex-spy, his unfaithful wife and a CD-ROM containing secret data star in this mix of comedy and thriller, directed in their usual manner by the Coen brothers. Although it doesn’t reach the level of Fargo or The Big Lebowski, a recommendable film that won the audience award at the San Sebastian Festival.

“Atilano, President”
Spain, 1998 (88 minutes). Directed by The Gang. Performers: Manuel Marquina, Ramón Barea, Saturnino García.
Atilano Bermejo is an unscrupulous man, an employee of a cemetery crematorium in Madrid, who one fine day is caught up in the fraud of his life: becoming president of the government. La Cuadrilla (Luis Guridi and Santiago Aguilar) concludes his peculiar trilogy about contemporary Spain, which began with Justino, an elderly killer, and Matías, a linesman, with this entertaining but confusing comedy that unfortunately lacks the charm of La Cuadrilla (Luis Guridi and Santiago Aguilar) completes its two caustic predecessors. Bullfights and football gave much more of themselves than politics.
