What’s more, the Coens create a poisonous plot that even slips into the horror genre, spiced with surprising dashes of black humor. From the simple starting point of a man hiring a detective to murder his unfaithful wife, the entire footage is an effervescent fantasy frenzy.

An intellectual and analytical director like Stanley Kubrick confronts Nabokov’s passionate and fiery universe. Much credit goes to Nabokov’s own screenplay; also in a priceless cast that includes James Mason, his eyes burning on the screen, his face filled with sorrow. Delivering an unusually solid staging, Kubrick applies his cynical eye to paint a portrait of the demons that torment people after seemingly ordinary lives.

Back then, “Alien” was a film that established a chair. It’s still a benchmark today, an exemplary film that breaks new ground in the horror genre. A suffocating spaceship, a distant planet and a terrifying alien of which the viewer will never have a complete description are the solid assets played by a Ridley Scott who was still believable as a director. A film that concentrates the sensations to the extreme, reinforced by a memorable staging that evokes cloudy panic explosions.
