Today’s host Karl Stefanovic delivered a thinly-veiled swipe at his pal Michael Clarke on Monday – days after footage of him intervening with his girlfriend Jade Yarbrough in the cricketer’s blazing row went viral.
Stefanovic joked on the air that he broke his “Hammie” – an apparent reference to the hamstring injury Clarke sustained in the Noosa riot on January 10.
He made the remark after sports presenter Alex Cullen reported on Novak Djokovic’s torn hamstring at the Australian Open, which the Serbian tennis ace says he managed with “pills and hot cream”.

Back at the Today studio, Stefanovic leaned over his chair and pretended to wince in pain as his co-host Sarah Abo joked: “We could have a hamstring injury [here] even.’
“Can I have some hot cream, please? Just finished me,” Stefanovic groaned and smiled mischievously.
“I don’t know how he did it either. He just sat there and now he’s up complaining of a hamstring injury,” said Abo.
He made the remark after sports presenter Alex Cullen (pictured) reported on Novak Djokovic’s torn hamstring at the Australian Open, which the Serbian tennis champion says he managed with “pills and hot cream”.
When cameras returned to the studio, Stefanovic was seen leaning over his chair and pretending to wince in pain as his new co-host Sarah Abo joked, “We could have a hamstring injury in the studio too.”
Stefanovic joked that Abo “wouldn’t understand” his pain because she wasn’t an “elite athlete” like him.
“You can pull a hammy just by sitting down. Hot cream, please!’ he exclaimed.

Clarke’s co-host Gerard Middleton couldn’t resist joking about the hamstring injury during the show, noting that the bruise on his “Hammie” was “two feet” long.
“I want to ask you, you showed us that bruise on your Achilles tendon earlier, that’s amazing mate. You won’t be able to walk properly for weeks,” Middleton joked.
Earlier in the show, Clarke also told his co-hosts Middleton and Laurie Daley that his injury was “on the mend” as the trio discussed their summer breaks.
Clarke shrugged and said: “No, it’s fine mate, it’s on the mend, I’m good to go, I’m ready, matchday, good to go, on the mend.”

In the video, filmed by a viewer on January 10 and later sold to The Daily Telegraph for a reported fee of $10,000, Yarbrough accused Clarke of cheating on her with his ex, fashion designer Pip Edwards, on December 17 to have.
Others in the group, including Stefanovic, his wife Jasmine – Yarbrough’s sister – and famed accountant Anthony Bell tried to defuse the commotion.

Yarbrough and Clarke, who limped in footage after injuring his hamstring in the riot, have since been slapped with “public nuisance” fines.
Stefanovic is yet to comment on the ordeal but was asked about the footage during an event at the Australian Open on Thursday.
According to the Herald Sun, he smiled when asked about the incident.

“You know what the answer will be,” he replied.
A remorseful Clarke has since accepted full responsibility for what happened.
“I am absolutely disappointed that I have brought into this position people I value most in this position. My actions leading up to this altercation were downright shameful and regrettable,” he said.
Edwards, the “other woman” in the scandal, issued a statement the night the footage was released. “It’s not my circus. Once again, Michael in his true nature has not taken responsibility for his actions and I have been openly lied to,” she told Chron Australia. “I’m devastated that my actions have drawn women of class and integrity and my buddies into this situation.”
Edwards also issued a statement on the night the footage was released.
