WhatsApp Meta Prepares The Privacy Feature Youve All Been Waiting

WhatsApp has finally found an easy solution to transfer your chat history – 01net

The instant messaging application is developing an option that will allow you to easily migrate your conversation history from one smartphone to another without having to use the cloud.

With every smartphone change, the same question arises: How do I go about transferring all the data? While syncing with Google Drive on Android and iCloud on iOS greatly simplifies things, there are still applications where data transfer is more complex. This is especially true for WhatsApp.

And while the app lets you back up your chat history to Google Drive or iCloud, the process isn’t always easy. To get your data back, you need a strong internet connection first, but also make sure you have enough cloud storage to store your WhatsApp backup.

However, Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, is exploring a new way to transfer your WhatsApp live history from your old smartphone to your new device.

A more secure transfer of your chat history

This new feature was officially presented by Mark Zuckerberg on his Facebook account a few days ago. In an accompanying video, he demonstrates a new method of transferring conversation history, which is initiated with his old device immediately after scanning a QR code displayed on the new smartphone’s screen.

What makes this method different from the existing one? A transfer of your data to the cloud is not necessary here. The two devices only communicate with each other via your local WiFi network to perform the data migration. Will Cathcart, the head of WhatsApp, also stated in a publication shared on Twitter that the conversation history was transmitted in a secure manner, probably using an encryption algorithm.

Be careful though, because this new option only allows you to transfer your conversations between two smartphones that use the same operating system. It is therefore pointless to imagine being able to perform this operation between an Android device and an iPhone. The function is currently being tested in a beta version of WhatsApp on Android and should soon be used on all devices. You can find it in the application’s settings under the Discussions menu, where you should be offered an option to broadcast the conversations.

Therefore, in order to transfer chat history between an Android device and an iPhone, you need to use the special option that WhatsApp introduced last year. The much more complex and, above all, time-consuming process must be carried out when configuring your new device after the first start.
