Google will now count your WhatsApp history in the storage space allocated to you on OneDrive. If you don’t have enough storage space on your main account, you can always use a secondary account dedicated exclusively to your WhatsApp conversations.
The bad news has just dropped. In the next few weeks, Google will stop storing your WhatsApp history for “free”. Please note that Mountain View company now counts the storage space occupied by your WhatsApp backup on Google Drive. A change that may cause problems for many users.
The free storage space on Google Drive is not just for storing your documents. This is also shared with Google Photos and Gmail. Suffice it to say, the 15GB of storage on offer runs the risk of being used up very quickly, counting your WhatsApp history. Taking into account the photos, videos and other documents sent and received in your conversations, it is not uncommon for a WhatsApp backup to weigh several gigabytes.
If you don’t want to dig into your wallet to expand your Google storage by subscribing to a Google One offer, you have no choice but to clean up your Drive from the start. But this balancing act risks quickly forcing you to delete more and more data from Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive. Unless you use a secondary Google account dedicated solely to WhatsApp backup. It is actually possible to configure a different Google account than the one you mainly use to sync your WhatsApp history. Find out how to do it.
