“This version of WhastApp became obsolete on March 27, 2023,” reads the error message on the user’s smartphone Arun Krishnamurthy (@arun279). On the same day, this Twitter user shared a screenshot of his WhatsApp open beta app, which had become unusable except to “get the latest version from the Google Play Store.”

Impossible, according to his tweet: “there is no update available for download”. In comments, many other users report that they are also suffering from this error.

If you’re also experiencing a similar problem, don’t worry: after the netizen politely asked the official WhatsApp account on Twitter to “fix this shit,” the instant messenger developers provided him with a solution.

A quick fix… that fails for some

A day later the official WhatsApp account users reply, announcing that “the issue has been resolved and Beta 2.23.7.14 is now available on our website and should be available soon on the Google Beta Store”. A solution confirmed 20 minutes later by the dissatisfied user.

On the other hand, several others give as an answer that the solution is still not working for them. Arun Krishnamurthy (@arun279) specifies his method in a third tweet “For anyone still having the problem, download the latest version from the website, install it, clear the cache and restart the app. It worked for me. »

I downloaded it, tried to install it but @miuirom thought it was malicious and uninstalled the app.

And when reinstalling, no backup data is found. So now I have lost all data for the last 7-8 years.

At least two other users However, they claim that installing this update failed on their end and that they “lost all data for the last 7-8 years”. Joypal Saha (@joypal012). We therefore recommend that you first manually copy the application files to a computer before performing a manual update, or wait until the update is officially available via the beta channel.

An early expiry date

As indicated in the article dedicated to this update on the specialized website WABetaInfo, this error is explained by the functionality of WhatsApp, which is being phased out to ensure that its members are using the latest version of the application and the latest security patches. But instead of expiring in a few weeks, the date was brought forward to March 27th through software or human error.

So the problem seems to be solved, but WABetaInfo still states that if you still have this problem after updating to WhatsApp Beta 2.23.7.14, “make sure you force close the application”.
