WhatsApp messaging service does not store a copy of your messages online like Messenger. Instead, the service uses a Google backup system for Android or iCloud for iPhones. Google will set limits.

When you install WhatsApp on a new smartphone, you start from scratch with your chats and attachments. In fact, the Meta service stores your conversations locally on your device, rather than on a server in the cloud, as Messenger does. This is also the reason why you must first synchronize your discussions with the smartphone application to find them on a PC or on the Internet.
To allow people to keep their conversations, WhatsApp has set up a backup system in the cloud, on Google servers in the case of an Android smartphone or on iCloud for an Apple iPhone. Google announces the introduction of restrictions.
Pay attention to your free space on Google
Starting in December 2023, with a planned deployment by early 2024, the WhatsApp application on Android will be updated so that the weight of backups will be deducted from your Google account.
For several months now, Google has ended unlimited backup of its services, limiting it to the approximately 15 GB offered when creating a Google Drive account. This update is another step in that direction.
In other words, Google will now deduct the backup of Google Photos, Google Drive, Gmail, and WhatsApp from your available storage space in your Google Account. If you run out of storage, you’ll need to get a Google One subscription.
Otherwise, the company recommends deleting certain items from your Google Photos or WhatsApp backup. With each of these announcements, Google runs the risk of making its platform less attractive. However, it should be noted that the company is based on the practice on the iPhone side. In fact, storing WhatsApp in iCloud will also deduct from the storage space offered by Apple.
