An announced success is the Netflix film Glass Onion – Knives Out, which sees an all-star cast beginning with Daniel Craig, Edward NortonKate Hudson, Ethan Hawke and Hugh Grant just to name the most famous.
The location where the film is shot is a dream and many who have seen it have wondered where it is.
The plot of the film
The whole story takes place in one place. But what a place. Wonderful. It’s about the luxurious villa of self-serving multi-billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton), owner of Alpha Industries, who gets bored on his own private island during the pandemic and decides to invite some old friends over to join him and organizes a murder mystery dinner.
For those who haven’t seen the film yet, we don’t want to spoil you. Let’s just tell about the villa Miles called glass onionprecisely through a gigantic glass dome on the roof of the mansion, which is visible from the sea.
Where is the real mansion from “Glass Onion”
In the film, the protagonists make no secret of the fact that they are on an island in the Aegean Sea. So, Greece. And we’re not far from the truth. It was filmed on the Greek peninsula, but not on an island. But on land. Also, this isn’t a private villa, but a luxury resort where anyone can holiday if their budget allows.
The resort is theamanzoe of the luxury hotel chain Aman and is located in the city Porto Heli (or Cheli), in the Peloponnese region, a two and a half hour drive from Athens.
It is a marvelous structure with modern classical architecture all white as if it were a Greek temple, with colonnades, small temples, stairways, dense vegetation sloping down to the blue sea understood as Aegean, but also with infinity Pools, panoramic terraces. an open-air theater with stone steps and large torches for the evening. A real dream. And outside of this resort, which consists only of private villas and cabanas on the beach, the entire film was shot.
Yes, because on the contrary, the sumptuous and even slightly kitschy interiors seen in the film’s scenes were recreated in the film studios in Belgrade, Serbia.
The site
You can hardly see anything from Porto Heli. It’s a shame because it’s a truly unique place and few foreign tourists – including Italians – know it. It counts as one Resort of wealthy Greeks. Shipowners, magnates and local celebrities spend their holidays here. The former king of Greece, Constantine II, also owned a villa. It is populated mainly in summer.
It overlooks the bay Argolic Gulf and a few kilometers from the coast you can see the island of Spetses, one of the Saronic Islands (the others are Aegina, Hydra, Poro and Salamina) famous for being car-free. The only way to get around here is by moped, and horse-drawn carriages provide local public transport. And from here the group of friends embark to reach the private island.
But back to Porto Heli. Aside from the Glass Onion resort, it would be worth a visit for that aloneold port town of Halieis. Its ruins are partly on land and partly in the sea. A unique archaeological site.
But it is also a holiday destination where everyone can go. And that in every season. In winter, for example, Athenians often come to stroll along the harbor to admire the magnificent boats that dock there.
