Where the Crawdads Sing Trailer: Daisy Edgar Jones Stars in Thriller

Sony has released a new trailer of Where the Crawdads Sing, an upcoming thriller hitting theaters on July 15th. The film, based on the Delia Owens novel of the same name, follows Kya (Daisy Edgar-Jones) – a young woman from the North Carolina swamps who is suspected of murdering a man she once dated.

“I fell so in love with the world Delia created, she has so much poetry in her writing. And her characters are so incredibly special, deep and complex – especially Kya, of course,” Edgar-Jones said in a video post promoting the film on Instagram’s Where the Crawdads Sing last February. “I would describe Kya as extremely resilient, wonderfully curious and strong. And I just feel so privileged and excited to play her.”

Alongside Edgar-Jones, Where the Crawdads Sing also stars Harris Dickinson (Beach Rats) as Kya’s boyfriend Tate and Taylor John Smith (Sharp Objects) as Chase, the murdered ex-lover before his death lied to Kya about the marriage and then attacked her after trying to end things. The cast also includes David Strathairn (Nightmare Alley), Garret Dillahunt (The Mindy Project), Ahna O’Reilly (The Help) and Michael Hyatt (The Little Things).

Reese Witherspoon, who chose Owens’ novel for her 2018 book club, is co-producing the film. “Where the Crawdads Sing” is also from Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine production company, as are 3000 images. The screenplay is by Lucy Alibar. Directed by Olivia Newman.
