The two Golden Globes won will not be enough to go «White lotus in Sicily» and neither did the more than 4 million viewers who watched the final episode of the second season in the United States. In fact, the TV miniseries is preparing to pack up and move.
White lotus moving to Asia?
The third season, which was announced in recent months and which appears inevitable after the recent successes, is rumored to be shot in Asia. Its creator, Mike White, predicted his goals for the future of the miniseries in a behind-the-scenes special that aired after the final episode. The move is on point as the first season was filmed in Hawaii and the second in Sicily. In fact, the White Lotus is based on one fixed point: each season needs to be set in a different luxury resort. And from what the director-screenwriter expected, the theme should also change: «In a way, the first season was about money, and the second – about sex – he said -. I thought the third might be a satirical and humorous look at death, Eastern religion and spirituality. I think it could be an interesting patchwork to do another lap in the White Lotus.” Therefore, Asia seems to be the right context to address these issues.
On site, White himself had indicated what he was planning to do in the past few months: “I think it would be fun to go to another continent. We did something so crazy in Europe, now maybe Asia.”
White Lotus, the scenes in Sicily and the Italian actresses
The Hbo TV production has been airing on Sky for the last few weeks and has mostly left American and English audiences insane.
Viewers of White Lotus will have to get used to new scenarios after the 5-star Four Seasons Hotel & Resort San Domenico Palace in Taormina. But the miniseries has also enhanced other beauties of the island, such as Noto or Cefalù. And it has had a positive impact on tourism, given the increase in bookings and web searches, which is also underlined by the American and English press and in particular by newspapers such as the New York Times and the Guardian.
Three Italian actresses appear in the cast. The two young Beatrice Grannò and Simona Tabasco, known from the Rai series “Doc – nelle tue mani”, and Sabrina Impacciatore, who already has a long career in play and art house cinema made in Italy behind her.
