Walton Goggins, Aimee Lou Wood, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sarah Catherine Hook And Sam Nivola are the latest additions to the main cast of the upcoming third installment of Mike White's anthology The White Lotus.
In the third season, set in Thailand, the quintet joins the previously cast Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Dom Hetrakul, Tayme Thapthimthong, Miloš Biković, Christian Friedel, Morgana O'Reilly, Lek Patravadi and Shalini Peiris, as well as returning season one standout Natasha Rothwell.
Like Coon, star of HBO's “The Gilded Age,” Goggins also stars in another HBO series, “The Righteous Gemstones,” with “The White Lotus's” production schedule matching the filming dates of her other shows.
Additionally, “The White Lotus” reunites Schwarzenegger with HBO/Max following his starring role in the limited series “The Staircase.”
Season 3 of The White Lotus, set to begin filming in and around Koh Samui, Phuket and Bangkok in February, follows a new group of guests at another White Lotus property.
As usual, no character details about the guests are revealed, but as Deadline reported in November, the multigenerational group includes a patriarch, a female executive, an actress, a few mothers, including a country club wife, a misfit and a yogi.
It is believed that Hook plays the outsider, while Schwarzenegger's character is said to be involved in financial transactions.
HBO worked with the Thai Tourism Authority to film and promote the third part.
After the second season finale in December 2022, White said that the third season would explore “death in Eastern religion and spirituality.”
“It’s going to be an oversized White Lotus,” he said of the relaunch last November. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier.”
Originally scheduled for 2024, Season 3 has now been pushed back to 2025 due to strike-related delays.
The first season of The White Lotus, which premiered in July 2021 and is set in Hawaii, received 20 Emmy nominations in 13 categories and won ten trophies, the most wins of any program this year, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
The Sicily-set second installment, which premiered in December 2022, received 23 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, and won five, including Outstanding Supporting Daughter in a Drama Series for Coolidge and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series”.
The White Lotus was created, written and directed by White. White, David Bernad and Mark Kamine are executive producers.
