The Israeli Armed Forces confirmed this Saturday (14) the death of Ali Qadi, one of the leaders of Hamas and responsible for leading the shootings in the south of the country last Saturday (7), according to the Israeli army.

According to the France Presse agency, the 37yearold Qadi was the head of Hamas’ elite unit.

“Israeli Air Force (IAF) aircraft, under the guidance of military intelligence, killed Ali Qadi,” the IAF wrote on its X (formerly Twitter) account.

Qadi was already known to the Israeli security forces. In 2005, he was arrested for kidnapping and murdering civilians, but was released from prison after striking a deal to release Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Gilad was only released in October 2011.

According to France Presse, both Israel and Palestine confirmed that Ali Qadi was one of more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners released in 2011 in exchange for Gilad.

According to the army, Murad “played an important role in Saturday’s massacre and directed the terrorists” that killed at least 260 people at the Universo Paralello rave, including Brazilians Karla Stelzer Mendes, Bruna Valeanu and Ranani Nidejelski Glazer.
