The war between Hamas and IsraelDossierThis far-right elected government member in charge of inheritance has been suspended from every Netanyahu government meeting “until further notice,” according to the Israeli press.
“That is one of the possibilities.” For Amichay Eliyahu, a bombing of the Gaza Strip with a nuclear weapon that Israel has at its disposal cannot be ruled out. A new outrageous statement from this far-right elected official during an interview with Radio Kol Barama, which has since been sanctioned. According to several Israeli media outlets, this morning, Sunday, November 5th, the Prime Minister announced “his suspension of all government meetings” until further notice. Before this announcement, Benjamin Netanyahu believed that his minister’s statements were “disconnected from reality.”
“Price to pay”
During his interview on Radio Kol Barama, Amichay Eliyahu was reminded that such attacks would inevitably endanger the lives of Israeli hostages still held in Gaza. The minister then spoke of the “price that must be paid for the war,” thereby arousing the anger of the families. He has since backtracked, clarifying that he had spoken about nuclear weapons in a “metaphorical” manner and recalling that the State of Israel had done “everything possible to ensure that the hostages return safely.”
In the same interview, he also indicated that he supported Israel’s retaking of Gaza, referring to a forced expulsion of Palestinians: “[Ils] can go to Ireland or the desert, the monsters of Gaza should find a solution for themselves.”
This is not the first time this elected official has been discussed in recent days. On November 1, he posted a statement on Facebook, apparently attributed to a soldier, in which he described northern Gaza, which was heavily bombed by the Israeli army, as “more beautiful than ever.”
Extremely right-wing extremist
Since 2022, Amichay Eliyahu has been a member of the far-right Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Force) party, which is regularly described in the Israeli press as a “racist” or even “fascist”. Before entering the government, he was elected to the Knesset in November 2022 alongside party leader Itamar Ben Gvir.
The latter is the current Minister of National Security of Israel. And above all, he is one of the most radical figures of the Israeli extreme right. The lawyer, who has been convicted several times for inciting racial hatred, therefore advocates the resettlement of part of Israel’s Arab population, which is considered disloyal, to neighboring countries and the annexation of the West Bank, as Libération explained.
