Although Jo Koy is not well known in Latin America, she has had a long career in television, film and, of course, comedy Portal/Mike Blake
In recent years, many award shows have chosen comedians to host their events, including the Golden Globes.
Jerrod Carmichael, Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais and Andy Sambergare some of the comedy personalities who staged this gala and now, in its 81st edition, it is their turn Jo Koy.
Although Koy is a name that has recently gained great popularity in the United States, it is possible that in Latin America it does not have the impact that the previously mentioned ones did, since the name of this actor is simply unknown to many.
Joseph Glenn Herbert was born on June 2, 1971 in Washington, Tacoma. The comedian, who has an American father and a Filipino mother, reiterated that his racial background was crucial in the development of his career. In fact, he shared in a recent interview with Variety that hosting the Golden Globes could mean a lot to new generations who believe they have no place in the entertainment industry because of the color of their skin.

“There is a child who is Asian or half white/half Asian, regardless of ethnicity. Seeing this will indirectly inspire them. And that's the kind of burden I have on my shoulders. Because I have to represent them well. That's why I want to make sure my job is done right. I want to make sure I'm funny. And that wasn't a coincidence. “I worked hard for this moment,” said Koy, clearly excited about his participation in the gala.
As for her career, Jo started as a stand-up performer in 1994, but it wasn't until 2005 that she managed to appear on The Tonight Show Jay Leno Moment that would make him famous.
In 2009 he recorded his first comedy special under the name Don't Make Him Angry for Comedy Central and won his first fans in this format. In 2012, a second special was set to be released for the channel titled “Lights Out”, and when streaming giant Netflix took over the mass production of these comedy specials, Koy didn't miss the opportunity and has four of these productions for the channel so far published channel. As expected, his success in comedy opened the doors to the world of acting, debuting in the series Family Tools in 2013 with a brief appearance in the pilot episode.
Jo has also had a distinguished film career, particularly in 2023 with films such as the new version of The Haunted Mansion (as Bartender), The Monkey King (as Benbo) and Leo (as Trainer Komura).

His participation at the Golden Globes could be an important starting point for seeing the comedian in more productions in the coming years and establishing himself alongside other personalities such as Ben Stiller, Jim Carrey and others.
“We are pleased that Jo […] Bring your infectious energy and relatable humor to kick off awards season in Hollywood. We can't wait to see what he has in store for the stars in the room and a global audience. “We know Jo is doing her best,” he said in a statement Helen HöhnePresident of the Golden Globes about Koy, although it should be noted that there were other candidates such as Chris Rock who refused to be the master of ceremonies for this edition of the shortlist.
