New Delhi:
Lalit Jha, the alleged mastermind of the smoke scare in Parliament, surrendered to Delhi Police yesterday after five of his accomplices were arrested following a massive security breach in Parliament that shocked the nation.
Here are 5 facts about Lalit Jha
Lalit Jha was on the run after the incident. The accused hails from Bihar but worked as a teacher in Kolkata. The accused have been booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act UAPA and sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Jha was inspired by freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh, police said. He allegedly made videos showing the defendants setting up smoke canisters outside Parliament and handed the videos to an NGO founder to ensure media coverage.
The alleged mastermind was a general secretary of an NGO led by Nilaksha Aich, the founder, to whom he had sent videos of the incident to ensure they were “safe”.
Lalit Jha was a quiet man, he taught local students. A few years ago he came to Burrabazar in Kolkata alone and kept a low profile, two years ago he suddenly left the area, a tea shop neighbor told PTI.
Four people were arrested over yesterday afternoon's security breach in which two men – Sagar and Manoranjan – smuggled in smoke bombs and left them during the Lok Sabha proceedings. Two other people, Neelam Devi and Amol Shinde, who could not get a pass, protested outside the Parliament building, shouting slogans and waving smoke canisters before they were caught.
