Many compatriots left the country in search of opportunities. That was the case for Robert Garcia, who immigrated to the United States with his mother at the age of five without speaking English. Now, shortly after his 45th birthday, he is mayor of Long Beach (one of California’s most important districts) and could – shortly – become a United States congressman.
This November 8th general election will be held in the North American country to decide whether the Democrat will take a seat in Parliament. If so, the position would add to his political record as mayor and Democratic leader.

The main engagement during his term in office will be promotion comprehensive immigration reform on behalf of residents in an irregular situation who face many obstacles to obtaining their US citizenship and who are persistent victims of discrimination.
Robert has also pledged that once he takes office in Washington, he will work on legislation that will “interact with.” Peru“.

Garcia holds a BA in Communication Studies, a Masters degree in Communication Management and an Ed.D. in higher education. He was also a professor of public policy and communications at the University of Southern California, California State University Long Beach, and Long Beach City College.
A few years ago when he was honored by the congress Peruvian for his victory as Mayor of Long Beach stated that he is proud to be Peruvian despite having American citizenship. On the other hand, he pointed out that he grew up with Peruvian customs, food, traditions, culture and music. He never got loose.
