Who won ALCS Game 4? Houston scores 10 runs from Jose Abreu, Chas McCormick home runs to even series with Texas Rangers – KTRK-TV

ARLINGTON, Texas (KTRK) — Here’s a fair question: Would the Astros’ magic from Game 3 of the American League Championship Series continue into Game 4?

Both Houston and the Rangers got that answer over the course of Thursday night, as the Astros strung together 10 runs while the bullpen kept the Texas hitters in check.

In the end, Houston turned an 0-2 ALCS series into a draw with a 10-3 win.

“Stros come out swinging.”

The ‘Stros got four hits from their first four batters – including a Jose Altuve double, a Mauricio Dubon single, an Alex Bregman RBI triple and a Yordan Alvarez RBI single – and scored three runs before the first out in the first was recorded inning.

The Rangers were expected to use a platoon of bullpen arms in Game 4, starting with Andrew Heaney, who got the hook after the first two outs of the game and saw seven batters, five of whom ended up on base.

Houston continued its threat with the bases loaded in the same inning, but Texas relief pitcher Dane Dunning struck out Martin Maldonado to strike out and keep Houston’s lead at 3-0.

Texas erases the lead

After a scoreless start to the second inning for the ‘Stros, the Rangers got on the scoreboard in the bottom half when Adolis Garcia hit the first home run of the ALCS off Jose Urquidy, who had retired the first three Texas batters in the game earlier in the game first inning.

The Rangers weren’t done yet. After a walk by Mitch Garver and a double by Natahaniel Lowe, Josh Jung hit a sacrifice fly to left field to take the lead. However, Urquidy and the Astros were able to survive the second inning with a 3-2 lead.

After another scoreless Astros inning in the third inning, the Rangers made it 3-3 in the bottom half when Corey Seager fired a fly ball that left the yard in left-center.

After back-to-back hits, Urquidy exited the game, leaving two runners on and one out in the third inning, which ended with Houston reliever Ryne Stanek inducing a double play with no further damage.

Astros open Game 4 wide open

So both teams started a new game in the fourth inning when the Astros returned to a familiar scenario – the bases were loaded. After new Texas pitcher Cody Bradford retired Alex Bregman for the first time, Yordan Alvarez stepped up and smashed a deep fly ball to tie the game. Unfortunately, Alvarez drove in a one-run sacrifice fly to give Houston another lead, 4-3.

Although no grand slam was earned, Jose Abreu made sure Houston got the rest of the runs when he smashed a three-run home run to left-center in the next at-bat, extending the lead to 7-3.

An interesting sequence occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning when, with Rangers runners on first and second base, Abreu caught a sharply hit liner for the first out and struck out Marcus Semien, who reached out to return to first base. Originally ruled safe, the decision was overturned on a replay when officials saw Abreu’s glove touch Semien’s batting gloves, which were hanging out of his back pocket. The Astros finished the inning maintaining a four-run lead.

Chas hits a home run

After a scoreless sixth inning, Houston reeled. With a runner on, Chas McCormick joined the home run parade by launching a 392-foot bomb off former Astros pitcher Will Smith. The Astros extended their lead to 9-3.

Another run was added in the eighth inning when Alvarez singled in Altuve, who was originally awarded a home run but was overturned after the replay. Houston extended the lead to 10-3.

Rafael Montero got the ninth inning with a seven-run cushion, which he easily survived and ended the ballgame.

The win now guarantees that the series returns to Houston for at least Game 6.
