Universitario de Deportes’ loss to Corinthians in the first leg of the round of 32 of the 2023 Copa Sudamericana resulted in striker Alex Valera being suspended for the second leg as collateral damage. The top scorer will be unable to retaliate in Lima as he was sent off, a situation that sees coach Jorge Fossati lose his key offensive card. Concerns from fans about the absence of their race number ‘9’ led to the name of Alexander Sucaranother attacker on campus, became a trend on social media.

In their publications about “Tank”, several fans expressed their opinion about the possibility that the 27-year-old player will be considered for the clash at the Monumental U Marathon Stadium. Some even asked about it in front of Emanuel Herrera, one of this season’s “U” star additions.

“I trust that Alexander Succar has already recovered so that he can play on Tuesday”, “People gave up Valera, a fatal night. I would have preferred Succar because of the dynamic”, “It’s one of the important (moments) Alexander Nasim.” Succar Cañote”, “Herrera’s best games were in the Monumental, I hope it gets lighter that day. Succar must be fine too if he’s allowed to participate,” “I prefer Succar to Herrera,” read the comments.

Why wasn’t Alexander Succar called up against Corinthians?

Oddly enough, Succar was trending after a game he wasn’t in action. The reason he wasn’t cited is because he’s still recovering from an ankle sprain that was diagnosed by the university’s medical department earlier this month.

Therefore he could not participate in the last two games of the final tournament. The club have not confirmed how long it will take for him to recover so it is not certain he will be called up for the second game against Corinthians which will be played on Tuesday 18 July.
