As the world of iPhones prepares to upgrade to iOS 17, some older models have just received a patch to protect them from a security flaw.
It’s an update called iOS 15.7.9 (and iPadOS 15.7.9). Surprising considering we are close to upgrading to iOS 17. Why is such an update being released today?
Rest assured, the world has not made a spatio-temporal leap. This is actually an update for iPhones 6, iPhones 7, iPhones SE, iPads Air 2, iPads mini and iPods touch or at least for some models in these product series.
Models that were unable to receive the latest iOS 16 update, namely iOS 16.6.1 or the equivalent on iPadOS. In fact, this update fixes a major security flaw: Hackers could use simple image files to execute code on an iPhone.
That’s right: people with bad intentions could hack your iPhone with a simple picture. And in this way it is possible for them to take control of your smartphone and spy on sometimes extremely sensitive information, such as your bank details.
We therefore better understand why this absolutely important update had to be made. Especially since Apple suspects that some have already discovered and exploited the security vulnerability in question.
Note that last week’s 16.6.1 update, which was therefore aimed at fixing the problem for newer models, was itself intended primarily for models such as the iPhone 8, which are not covered by the transition to iOS 17.
The transition to the next version of Apple’s operating system for the iPhone is getting closer and the final release date may be later this month. But for those whose models cannot experience this new great adventure from Apple, it is essential to install the 16.6.1 or 15.7.9 update to fix this rather worrying security flaw.
And even for those upgrading to iOS 17, it’s probably still worth being cautious and downloading this latest iOS 16 update before moving to the new version, if only to keep you in the last Weeks of waiting to protect. .
