Marianna Budanova, wife of the head of the GUR (military intelligence service of the Ukraine), Kirilo Budanov, is being treated for heavy metal poisoning, a source familiar with the case told the Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform.

“Marianna Budanova was poisoned with heavy metals. He is being treated,” the anonymous source told the agency.

Ukrainian military intelligence did not deny the information and will comment on the case soon, the GUR press service told Ukrinform.

On the other hand, a military intelligence source told the Ukrainian publication Babel that Marianna Budanova was in the hospital, where she was admitted after “a prolonged deterioration” in her health.

The substances discovered in the woman’s body “are in no way used in everyday life or for military purposes” and “their presence would indicate an attempt to deliberately poison a specific person,” this source added.

Kirilo Budanov has already implicitly acknowledged the responsibility of the agency he leads in several actions inside Russia against military targets and highranking Russian officials.

Russian agents have been behind the poisoning of several dissidents in recent years.
