Wilfrido Vargas lawsuit hearing postponed

Today's hearing on the lawsuit against Wilfrido Vargas over the copyright of “El baile del perrito” has been postponed until next Wednesday, May 22nd.

Since there was no response to the subpoena and non-compliance communicated by Vargas in 2023, composer and academic Juan Valdez sued Wilfrido Vargas and the Wilfrido Vargas Corporation for a sum of one hundred million pesos, divided into fifty million, for property damage and pecuniary rights for that which the work in question has produced in the more than twenty years since its publication, and fifty million pesos for moral rights or paternity of the work, a fee corresponding to the authorship of more than 70% of the lyrics and music of the popular song.

Vargas previously expected to pay the rights of another composer of the piece, Winston Paulino, but ignored Valdez despite attempts to settle this claim out of court.

Valdez reiterated that in the lawsuit he will present reliable evidence, records and witnesses to support the veracity of his argument, which he will make in court.
