Head coach Bill Belichick could play his last game at the helm of the New England Patriots on Sunday in Germany if his team loses to the Indianapolis Colts.
Boston Globe columnist Ben Volin has expressed this more twice than once in recent days.
“The Patriots don’t play again at Gillette Stadium against the Chargers until December 3rd [de Los Angeles]” he wrote after the Massachusetts club’s 20-17 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
“It used to seem absurd to fire Belichick in the middle of the season, but if the Patriots don’t beat the Colts next week, the Krafts will [les propriétaires de l’équipe] You might have to think about it during the break in Week 11.”
The “Pats” have lost their last two duels and have a record of two wins and seven defeats. Everything points to them missing the playoffs for the second year in a row.
A replacement is already in sight
The 49-year-old NFL coach reportedly signed a lucrative, multi-season contract extension earlier this year, but the Patriots’ recent failures may force the organization to let him go.
However, if the team decides to part ways with its pilot, Volin says Robert Kraft’s ideal choice would be current Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel.

New England has never been the same team since the departure of quarterback Tom Brady after the 2019 season. The ‘Pats went 27-31 without the holder of seven Super Bowl rings and made the playoffs just once. It was 2021 and Belichick’s team lost in the first round.
The 71-year-old is in his 24th season as head coach of the Patriots. Since taking over, he has won six Super Bowl championships, an NFL record.
