The news that a 71-year-old quarterback is “shredding up” the Seattle Seahawks’ high school has circulated on social media, where Snoop Dogg, Will Ferrell and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell have all voiced their sarcastic disapproval.
The reserve quarterback was none other than Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, whose reputation for physical fitness was only bolstered by viral footage of him beating Seattle secondary in a few drills at training camp.
In response to the clip, which was posted to the team’s Twitter page earlier this week, Carroll took flippant criticism from Snoop and Ferrell — two well-known USC fans who already know the former Trojans head coach.
“Pete Carroll, you have the guts to berate your players like that,” Snoop, 51, said in a separate video. “You should be punished, dog. i thought you were better
“On behalf of Death Row Records, you continue to treat these gamers like this, berate them… I’ll show up and show myself… because you know I’m a gamer,” Snoop continued. ‘Get your shit together, Pete.’ I don’t want to, but I will.’
The white-haired backup QB at Seahawks training camp was 71-year-old Pete Carroll
Will Ferrell knows Carroll from his days as Trojans head coach. Ferrell is a USC alum
The viral reaction then hit Goodell.
“Hey trainers, I received a video of one of your workouts today that is causing me great concern,” Goodell, 64, said. “I keep hearing about the abuse you’ve done to your defensive secondary, destroying it with your passes and your running every day.”
Next it was Ferrell’s turn to bust that joke.
‘What are you doing?’ asked Ferrell, a 56-year-old USC grad. “These are young men out there.” They fight for their livelihood, for their work. And you make them look like little sluts. you have to withdraw ‘Cause if you make them look like little sluts, I’ll make you my little slut. And you know I will. Back, bastard. Back.’
Carroll, one of only three football coaches to win an NCAA title and Super Bowl, closed the video with his own response.
Snoop Dogg, another USC fan, knew Carroll from his time with the Trojans
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also joined in the (boring) joke
“Wow, I had no idea you guys felt this way,” Carroll said. “But hey, you either compete or you don’t.”
Despite his accurate throws, Carroll never played quarterback in his youth. Instead, he was a safety at Pacific, where he received All-Conference honors in 1971 and 1972.
Since then, Carroll has been the head coach of the New York Jets and the New England Patriots before eventually finding some success with USC from 2001-09, winning two national championships.
Violations of the NCAA caused many of Carroll’s accomplishments at USC to be axed, but the Associated Press continues to recognize his Trojans as the 2004 National Champions.
