Meghan Markle is being considered to take over as Senator from Dianne Feinstein, Dean of the American Senate, who died this Friday, September 29th.
From television to congress? Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry, could take the plunge into politics, according to information obtained by The Mail on Sunday, after Dianne Feinstein, the dean of the US Senate and former mayor of San Francisco, died this Friday on September 29. 2023.
The Duchess of Sussex would be tempted to run as a candidate to fill the Democrat’s now vacant seat until the next election in November 2024.
Not such surprising news, since Meghan Markle studied politics and earned a double degree in theater and international relations, although she fails the exams that could have paved the way to a political career.
“A black woman capable of doing this job”
According to a source close to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has the final say in naming Dianne Feinstein’s successor, Meghan Markle’s name would be at the top of the list. In fact, Governor Newsom reportedly intends to nominate a Black woman to the position.
In addition, most potential candidates who have already announced their intention to run in 2024 will be excluded because their candidacy “would be viewed as a huge and very unfair advantage.”
“[Gavin Newsom] I need to find a black woman who can do this job for 13 months and agree not to go against experienced politicians. There aren’t many women who fit this profile. This is why the name Meghan Markle is being bandied about,” a source told the British weekly.
The Duchess of Sussex has been actively involved in social causes in the United States for many years. Together with her husband, she advocates for family vacations, mental health, the fight against climate change and hunger.
