Actor Will Smith left the audience at tonight’s Oscars in shock after he got up from his seat and smacked comedian Chris Rock in the face.
The attack came after the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Although the interaction between the two could not be heard in the US broadcast on the ABC channel, the broadcast in other countries was not cut and the famous actor from the series “The Fresh Prince” could be heard yelling at comedians: “Keep my wife’s name out of your damn mouth.”
Will Smith just beat me up. It was the best night in the history of television,” said Chris Rock, visibly surprised.
What did Chris Rock say?
Jada I love you GI Jane 2 can’t wait to see it‘ was the ‘joke’ Rock said on TV. GI Jane is a 1997 military film in which the protagonist Demi Moore is known for her shaved hair.
For several months, Jada Pinkett Smith has had a shaved head due to alopecia, a condition that causes abnormal hair loss.
Last December, Jada made the disease public to her followers.
“Mom is going to have to cut it off to the scalp so no one thinks she has brain surgery or anything. This alopecia and I become friends…period! ‘ Pinkett wrote on her Instagram account, along with a clip in which she shares what prompted her to make this decision.
Will Smith apologizes
Almost an hour and a half after the encounter, Will Smith won the Oscar for best actor for his role as the father of Venus and Serena Williams in the film King Richard. He picked up the statuette and took the opportunity to apologize.
