Wilson Cabral Nunes, a participant in the MasterChef Professionals 2022 program, died this Friday (21) at the age of 40. The chef was involved in a car accident in Sorocaba, inland São Paulo, on the 14th of last year and has been hospitalized ever since. Information about his death was confirmed by family members on social networks.

“It is with regret that I come here to inform you of Wilson’s death. Unfortunately, his time to please you with his food and wonderful dishes is over. I’m shocked but very happy to have been a part of his life for 11 years. Now is the time to trust God and believe that all He left behind will serve as a pride for the son He loved so dearly. Thank you for all the messages,” wrote Simone, Wilson’s wife. The chef leaves behind a son, Arthur, aged 9.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Wilson was a food specialist from the southern United States, where he lived for six years during his teenage years. He was a semifinalist on the reality gastronomy show, losing out to contestant Diego Sacilotto, champion of the season. After the program ended, Wilson, along with Hichel, a former contestant of the same edition, opened a restaurant specializing in grilled ribs in Sorocaba.

Sacilotto paid tribute to him on Instagram: “You taught me honesty and respect in argument and proved that a dream should never be given up (…). You were a staunch adversary, a staunch friend, and an unwavering chef. I will miss you very much.” The chef is survived by his wife and 9yearold son, Arthur. Incidentally, it was the boy who asked his father to sign up for the reality show because he thought his food was “the best in the world.” Information about Wilson’s funeral has not been released at the time of this report’s publication.
